Intro to Hand Darning Workshop - February 26

Regular price $60

Join us for a hand-darning workshop with Nandi of Bliss Joy Bull!

Make your holey sweaters wearable again with darning. Learn how to repair holes in knitwear by darning a hole by hand and with a Speedweve-style darning loom. This two-hour class will guide you through the process of creating and darning a rectangular patch with yarn. You will learn the best tools and materials for repairing knitwear with darning. Bring your own sweater with a 1” hole or smaller to repair!

Learn the basics of hand-darning knit fabrics. You’ll learn how to repair your holey socks and sweaters. This workshop covers:

  • Tapestry needles, and wool and cotton yarns will be provided. A knitted swatch will also be provided to practice these techniques.
  • You'll be provided a darning loom for use during the workshop - available for purchase after the workshop
  • In general, chunkier knits in a solid color without patterns are easier to learn how to darn. Very fine knit fabric is more challenging.
  • Beginner/advanced beginner. Knowledge of knit fabric (what knit/purl means) is beneficial, but not mandatory.
  • Please note: we probably won't have an exact color match for yarn unless you bring your own. We love visible mends!
  • Thread snips, extra wool yarn, and darning looms will be available for purchase after the workshop.

Meet our instructor, Nandi Duszynski:

Nandi got her start in designing and crafting at a young age. She attended design school at Iowa State University and completed her degree in fashion design at the Art Institute of NYC. Nandi moved back to the midwest after 4 years in New York, and has lived in Chicago since 2015.

Nandi started her business BLISS JOY BULL from a desire to reduce waste and use unwanted materials. In early 2021, Nandi started teaching sewing classes virtually. Over the years many people have come up to her during craft shows saying they don’t even know how to sew on a button. With that in mind, along with the knowledge of overproduction, overconsumption, and lack of sewing skills, Nandi developed a visible mending class. Nandi strives to make sewing simple, bringing joy to the clothing we wear by making it last longer.
